"Lost" - who's watching?
«

This being the last season of "Lost" , at long last we're going to find out the mystery of the island. Maybe. So far the story line is uneven with lots of side jumps that aren't very interesting (IMHO) and a possessed Locke and somewhat dead-but-now-alive Sayid, who appears (nothing is what it appears so who knows) to have sold his soul to the devil. In this case the devil is in the form of our old friend, Smoky, the black...smoke that appeared on-and-off while eliminating characters. This week's installment was disappointing in that the show has come down to the legion of bad posessed/obsessed led by Smoky a.k.a. Locke vs the legion of good most likely headed by Jack. In other words - predictable but we'll have to see where this goes.
Anybody else watching and if so - whad'ya think?

She has to be "the" worst actress on TV these days. Let's not even focus on that bad wig they stuck on her, too. I find the whole story line - as it stands now - very dumb and predictable. I love Locke's character and it was smart on the part of the powers-that-be to keep him in the show. I think - my prediction - that in the end Sayid will end up being the good guy, kill/destroy Smoky and save everyone. I believe that he is just pretending to be Smoky's pal to discover his weakness. I also believe that Claire will go completely nutso and run off into the jungle. Kate will end up raising Aaron.

Locke is a demon at the very least that can adapt his personna to be anyone it wants. This was mentioned in the show. Most likely he will assume another character(s) down the line.

How on earth do y'all, swallow such garbage. I understand that is work and therefore money to the writers, actors and crew; but how does a nation which gave the world Mark Twain, John Whittier, Stephen Crane, Lucy Montgomery (Canada), Ogden Nash and others accept such trash as Lost and even survival. Ah well! to each his (and her) own.,

I have never been able to get into "Lost". Don't know why, just haven't been able to follow it. I haven't been able to follow much these past couple years, there was a reality show on Showtime or HBO called "The Shot" that I thought I was going to be able to follow but it turned into a pathetic reality show crap that just didn't hold me. Some of the assignments where pretty cool but a majority of them were pointless, like why would a photographer be involved in a food fight?

In my opinion Lost is the most creative writing ever been done on TV. If you didn't get into it on the ground floor, then I can see how it is confusing now. And I "LOST" track last year because I couldn't stay up long enough to watch it. But happily they caught me up in the "catch up" episodes when this season started.
There are two way to enjoy Lost - try to figure out what it means, or just enjoy the drama. To try to figure it out is like looking at a Picasso painting - it means different things to different folks.
I am going to miss it when its gone. It is not a reality show, BTW. The farthermost thing from it. It is more like a sifi/fantasy soap opera if you have to find a genre for it.
And, Ellie, I have to disagree with you. I am finding this season and entertaining as ever. To me, I like that they are doing the "what if" the crash never happened story lines. Don't we do that? "What if I'd never married him? or "What if I'd moved to Tim buck Too?" "What if we'd saved more money?" ------

Not complaining (too much) about the "side-stories" of the Lost gang since this is a means in which the writers are trying to point out how the characters are connected in the past. What I find frustrating for lack of a better word, is the jumping back-and-forth. Let's not forget the time travel wheel thingie that took the charaters back in the past and then in the future and then back....etc. etc. to the point where they never knew where they were. Then there was Juliette's death trying to prevent the big bomb from blowing up. Everyone survives?
Now we're getting fed yet more alternate pasts. Just too convoluted. I find the "legion-of-the-damned' a.k.a. Smokey Locke's legion vs the legion-of-the-good, stupid. Been there in many films/tv series, etc. before - seen that. Still, of course I willwatch it to the end having invested many, many viewing hours to this series. It is among if not "the" best TV series ever on TV - IMHO along with - again IMHO - "X-Files." Hopefully, they will end it with class or my guess is that they'll leave us wondering...again.

Donnalee - did you watch Lost last night? I dunno - maybe it's just me but given everything that went on in past seasons, this abrupt new direction - sideways - is really confusing. The young female student was his daughter in an earlier season who he allowed to be shot and then she's his student? It must be before since she doesn't appear to know that he's her father. Then again, is this an alternate reality given the twist of the time machine? Anybody got any theories?

LOL, I am not thinking about it all that hard, Ellie. I like the "what if" story lines. I am working while I watch/listen to it so I can't read the subtitles for the most part. So I am not using a lot of energy trying to figure it out - I missed so much last year. So I just enjoy the story each week, feel happy in the aha moments and the rest doesn't matter that much to me.

In addition to Locke, I love the character of Ben, who epitomizes evil/negative forces. It's interesting that the writers placed him on the team of the "good guys" and are attempting to redeem his character. I suppose they're trying to put accross the message that there's good in everybody but Locke (or Smokey) is the force that saved him from death by placing a rifle in the right place, even though Ben didn't use it. Wanna be that Locke will seek his revenge?
The closing scene with the submarine is interesting and the arrival of Charles Widmore. He has been portrayed as evil but then there are different degrees of evil... Wonder who else they will bring back from the dead... Waiting for Sawyer's return wherever he disappeared to.

Yes, and I am going to miss it. But it had to come to an end at some point. I hope the writers will come up with something else as creative.

You know that I had to watch the ending of this series, having invested all those years watching it. In the end...in the true sense of the word...I was disappointed. Media reports indicated that it might not answer viewers questions and it didn't. In fact, in my mind the writing team really took the easy way out passing it off as Jack's attempt at redemption. It focused on the Jack character for the main part, which was puzzling for me. I mean, there were other equally important characters! The last couple of seasons showed us another possible or alternate reality, which ended up being sort-of a holding place for all the souls of the Lost characters. Kind-of a let down for me, since this was one of our collective discussions and hypothesis early on in the series first or second season. Remember donnalee? We had enough problems focusing on the main story line so why introduce another one? It reminded me somewhat of the film musical, "All That Jazz" where the dying man meets all the people who ever meant anything in his life. Ditto in Lost. As I wrote: cop out on behalf of the writers. It's been done many times before and we viewers deserved a better ending. Then again, maybe it's just me?

I thought the nicest touch was bringing back the dog, Vincent, who laid down beside the dying Jack. Very emotional.
Just read somebody who wrote a column focusing on Lost for on-line, Entertainment Weekly. He writes that the characters were dead all along, and they were brought together so that they could accept their fate. Does this mean, I wonder that the plane crash never took place? I dunno...if he's right, then this was really a waste of time for me, anyway.
Opinions anyone? DonnaLee?

Entirely too much time on my hands...
I've been reading comments by Lost viewers on the Net, most of whom stayed with the series for its entire run. Interestingly-enough, like me, many feel that the writers seemed to lack a definitive direction. I noticed somewhere at the half-way point in the series run that the story line was weaker and seemed to be floundering. Overall, I would estimate that many "Losties" were disappointed but the fact that there is post-series dialogue indicates that the producers/writers hit home.
So did anybody reading this watch the ending, anyways?

Yes, I watched it. I have always thought they were in purgatory (are the writers Catholic?) But what about Ben - why was he "not ready" to go with them?
